The rules of WG are essentially common sense. Lately however we've had a string of gibbons who seem to live in a different reality so Ive taken the time to refresh the WG rules for up-to-date viewing.
1. Respect other's opinions and feel free to voice your own but rememeber where you are.
World Garage is, as some people will be very quick to point out, a community of fans. The thing is, no one will ever really deny that in WG. Sure, we're well aware that there are flaws in World and we even have some pretty strong ideas on how World should be changed but ultimately we support the dev's choices and respect them.
This is why posting threads about how retarded they are, or commenting on their parentage for example, will likely be met with a heavy backlash.
Just as you are entitled to post your opinions, the community of WG is entitled to reply with their opinions. Dont start crying when people disagree with you and be aware that just because someone has a different opinion too doesnt mean they are anymore right or wrong for it. Try not to view other people having independant thoughts as some sort of attack on yourself.
To reiterate though, keep in mind that we are pro-EA. Just like you wouldn't Vegetarian Resturant and start complaining when theres no meat on the menu, you'll find yourself getting ignored pretty quickly.
1a. Try to keep threads on topic. Threads that go drastically off-topic will have the offending posts pruned and dumped into The Basement
2. Dont try and stir-up drama between us and other NFS communities.
World Garage tries to keep a good relationship with the other main communities and although the admins talk frequently with each other, we generally keep ourselves to ourselves. We encourage you to check out other NFS communities (these can be found in our Links section) as variety is always a good thing (except in chemistry perhaps) but please dont be trollin' yo. Users found doing this will be warned and most likely banned.
3. Multi-accounting is prohibited.
This is amazingly simple yet some people (generally the ones in violation of the above two points) dont seem to grasp it and when questioned cant see anything wrong with it. If you have an account here at WG, that should be your only account at WG. If you wish to change your name, or have forgotten your account information then contact another member of staff. Dont just create a new account! This applies especially if you have been banned and try to create an account just to get round the ban.
REMEMBER: It takes more effort to create an alt account than it does for a staff member to click on your name and select "Ban" ![]()
4. Keep to the English language
English is the chosen language here at WG and we ask all members to use this language. If you cant speak English and cant hold a conversation very well then WG is probably not suited for you. We welcome members who are willing to try though but any posts made in foreign languages will be deleted or edited out. This doesnt mean that you are going to get into trouble for using foreign words providng they can easily be determined from its context though. ![]()
4a. Keep your English readable - this means please do not "tlk like ur a retard llol!!1" and try to refrain from speaking "IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS!".
5. Dont post hate speech, porn, gore or anything like that.
This is a forum about World, the Need for Speed racing MMO. Although you may have some very convincing arguments on a certain political agenda, this is not the place to voice them!
5a. Refrain from bullying or trolling other members. Theres a fine line between teasing and having a joke to outright bullying.
6. Dont use WG solely as some way to advertise your own site, community or product.
As said in point 2, we encourage you to visit other communities but we ask that if you have a site that you want people to check out then post it in the links section. If you then decide to run an event for your community or similar, let a staff member know! We can then advertise it for you in the public calendar and even cover it in our news section if its worth checking out. Going ahead on your own though and posting a thread on how people should check out your community will likely see it locked or deleted though. This isn't us being unfair as a bit common sense should show you that you wouldnt appreciate it happening to your site.
NOTE: Please do not spam members with your site links/products via the PM system to get around this rule.
7. Staff members are fans like you.
Although staff have different coloured names, they are still players just like you and as such are entitled to have their own opinions. We have been critised for this before, condemened for not being "proper" but to those people I say, "Bugger off.". We're a tight knit community and we're all friends here so the staffs job mainly exists to stop idiots from spoiling it for others.
The staff are people who give up that little bit more free time to keep this place running too so its adviseable not to mouth off to these people.
That being said, if you ever feel a staff member is abusing his or her power then by all means contact me personally through PM. I can assure you you will get a non-biased and mature review of your problem though I must stress I have little time for people who are just out to waste my time!
8. Join in and contribute!
The regular members are the ones who contribute and get involved in everything. We have crews formed, videos created, cruises organised, even a web-comic strip running which is done by dedicated fans. Im not saying you have to have a finger in every pie but it helps to get involved and enjoy yourself as much as possible. If you can think of something cool to do, suggest it in the forum and you'll find yourself with a list of helpers pretty soon too ![]()
A note on Discipline
A user who causes a fuss will be treated on an individual basis. What this means is that there is no cookie-cutter system, whereby breaking certain rules will cause a definite event. When any kind of discipline is enforced a member, his or her past behaviour on WG is taken into account as well as their reasoning for getting into trouble in the first place. We have a warn system that lets staff keep a track of what users have done too.
A note on the Chat
Chat has the same rules as the forum. However, users who act up in chat can find themselves banned from the Chat section alone if they cant behave when staff arent around. One of the features we have here at WG is the ability to check chat logs and if we find reason to ban you from the chat we will do so. Generally in this scenario you will also be put on forum moderation which means that any posts you make will be queued for staff approval first.
A note of the Basement
The Basement is a section of the forum that is a bit more ... relaxed with the rules. The rules still apply but for example it is impossible for a thread to go off-topic there. If arguments break out anywhere in the forum, they get moved into here so they can carry on without disrupting the flow of the forum. This is pretty much like getting to play in the WG bins out back, and occasionally instead of banning members we will restrict them to just this area. For more information on the Basement, please see this thread.
To access this section you will need a password (unless you've been placed there or you are a part of the WG staff). This password is the first name of Brad Pitt's character in Fight Club. The reason we do this is to stop innocent members from stumbling into the forum by accident.
A note on the Gallery
Only create a sub-folders in the Members Area unless you've gained permission to post elsewhere.
If you want to post your rides from other NFS games not listed in the "Post your cars" section, please pm myself or Frozenstar to have us create the folder accordingly.
Please try and only post stuff other people will find interesting - for example dont post 20 images of the same car from slightly different angles, it just wastes time and space.
The gallery is still very new and you may encounter bugs and glitches - please report them in the Support section.
A note on bumping aka necroing
We have added a new feature to the forums with a warning about necro/bumping posts.
if you come across a topic which has the last post date greater than 21 days from the date you are looking at it there will be a notice or warning advising you that you are about to revive a old topic. If you feel that you have some substance to add to that topic than feel free to post. But alternatively you can also start a new topic to start a new conversation. Please use your best judgment when replying to older topics or it will be locked.
Basically this was added to simply make the staffs job a little easier so they can enjoy there time on the site rather than go through every topic to make sure that topics aren't unnecessarily bumped.
The above rules/guides/tips are open to change and if you have any serious suggestions please feel free to discuss them below.
