Here is a picture I taken maybe more than a year ago, from our staircase's window.

It's the main avenue of my city, Kazincbarcika. I think this is the best photo of it. =)

Some very nice shots here. Thought I might add a few of my own. I generally do very little post processing, though I shoot my images in RAW mode and so they have to be converted to jpg in photoshop.

Don't convert to jpeg or jpg, you lose quality.
Use png instead. Saves on quality.

Actually I convert to TIFF for printing, low quality jpegs are strictly for the web, (a typical TIFF image from my camera is about 50Mb in size). PNG does lose quite a bit of quality when it comes to photographs and should only be used for line art and such. RAW, on the other hand will only be seen by a program equipped to read the format. (RAW = Digital Negative).

That might hold true if your still on dial-up.

It is not about the page load times for end users... I make my living from my photography, and there is no point placing high resolution 16 bit 300 DPI images ion a place where they are freely available. Instead all web images are reduced in quality enough to make printing less attractive to those who have no respect for copyright.

As for PNG v JPG for photographs.. simple test... take a PNG to a professional lab and see the result of the print, if, and it is a big if, they will even print from that format.
