This has been discussed in the staff section but I figured I'd post it here to get the community feedback before we do anything:

Proposal: WG Regular group will no longer be given at 100 posts. From now on, to join the WG Regulars group you need to apply. Essentially potential regulars would post a thread in a set area answering a series of questions. They'd need to be active on the site for at least a month and played a few games with some WG Regulars. After we were convinced the user was sensible we'd make him a recruit (and possibly make it a bit of a ceremony too!).
Reason: Cut down on the amount of post spamming to reach the status and show those members that actually want to be considered "WG" and those that just want to post on the site and check the community out from time to time.

Things like the gallery and blog will become postable by WG Regulars only (though we will give access to these areas upon request under special circumstances).

Thoughts?

EDIT: Should probably enforce that the application process wont be hard - if you're a natural regular then it wont even effect you. This idea is purely to cut down on post spamming to get the yellow name, and to cut down on one-post users filling up the Gallery with loads of screenshots.

i think that is we remove the 100 post count it will mean alot less posts from new people.
though the idea that becoming a regular by application, or even invitation is alot better as a set post count.

True, but I personally would be happier seeing an active commnunity with constructive posts and long term members as opposed to a larger community with a high turn over of one-post members.

I do not like the idea of the gallery becoming postable by WG Regulars only. However, I'm ok with blogs.

What about those members who are active in the chat; but do not post a lot (or perhaps never) in the forums.

Then they'd still be able to apply to be WG Regulars. Thats the whole point in this system, it allows for people to become WG Regulars by being regular WG'ers, not just post spamming.

Also, what do you not like about the gallery becoming only postable by WG Regulars?

Yes, that was the problem - about 64% of the gallery images were random NFS screenshots posted in the wrong folders by members who had never even posted.

Thats the equivalent of someone sneaking into your house during the night and leaving photos of themselves everywhere and leaving before introducing themselves.

that would be better as being woken in the middle of the night by a complete stranger that tells you his name is tom, and that he left a bunch of nude photo's on your bathroom wall.
